:summary: Description of the currently used infrastructure
The Freepoteries server is up and running since january 2018. The software,
hardware, and the network setup have changed in time, this page will describe
the history of this infrastructure.
----
2018
----
I began with a Debian stretch as the host OS, libvirt as the virtual machine
supervisor, LXC as the containers supervisor. LXC was handling the network, and
all of my storage volume were managed by LVM. SystemD was the PID 1, and I had
to learn how to manage a server with it.
This setup lasted for about 1 year, and I managed to work with it but after
this, I felt that, to progress in my administrating skills, to migrate to a
lighter setup. This led me to a huge step in my computing.
----
2019
----
This is my current setup :
:Host OS: Gentoo
:Hypervisor: libVirt
:Partitioning: LVM
:PID 1: OpenRC
:Virtual Machines:
- DAV service (baïkal)
- DBMS (mariadb)
- DNS (unbound)
- Music stream (icecast)
- Mail management (modoboa)
- Mail server (postfix+dovecot)
- Music stream (mpd)
- Monitoring Service (munin)
- Picture hosting (piwigo)
- Reverse Proxy (nginx)
- Websites (nginx)
- YunoHost multi-services
The libvirtd daemon is almost the only process that runs directly on the host.
This "pstree" is pretty self-explanatory :
